7th edition of the Mediterranean Economic Week

Over 3000 participants from the three shores of the Mediterranean Sea took part in the 7th edition of the Mediterranean Economic Week that took place from Wednesday, November 6th to Saturday, November 9th, 2013 in the Villa Mediterranée, in Marseille. Over four days, more than thirty events were organized, among which the MENA Economic Forum, under the high patronage of Mr. François Hollande, President of the French Republic; the 9th Mediterranean Economic Rendezvous; the 3rd Mediterranean Port Professionals Forum; the first plenary session putting forward the first concrete assessment of Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture.

Over four days, local governments, CEOs, international donors, entrepreneurs, researchers, artists, economists, students, experts, and civil society figures from around 30 countries got involved in the debates, workshops and conferences that took place during this event. Over fifty journalists covered this 7th edition of the Mediterranean Economic Week.

Personalities such as Mrs Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Culture, Education, Multilinguism and Youth, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qassimi, member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment and the Digital Economy, Morocco, His Highness Arnaud Montebourg, Minister of Industrial Renewal, France, Mr. Philippe de Fontaine Vive, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank and Co-President of OCEMO as well as Mrs. Marie-Pierre Nicollet, Director of the Mediterranean and Middle East Department, French Development Agency took part in the debates.

This 7th edition focused on the role of culture as a driving force for economic development in the Mediterranean region.

The Mediterranean Economic Week is organized by the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur Region, the City of Marseille, the Marseille Provence Métropole Urban Community, the Euroméditerranée Urban Development Agency, the Marseille Provence Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and coordinated by the Office of Economic Cooperation for the Mediterranean and the Middle East (OCEMO).
