Popular University : “Arab Revolts”, 13-14 May 2011
The Institute for Mediterranean Research and Studies Middle East (iReMMO) organizes on 13 and 14 May this year a first round on the theme of “Arab Revolts”.
This training will be organized as follows:
– Elizabeth Picard, director of research at the CNRS, will review the historical overview of these revolts and revolutions (Friday, May 13, 18-20h)
– Alain Gresh, Journalist, specialist in Middle East, will identify the reasons for these uprisings, the peculiarities of each and the role of new media. (Saturday, May 14, 10:30 to 12:30)
– Burhan Ghalioun, director of the Center for Studies of Contemporary East and professor of sociology at the Sorbonne, then will ask the question: “where the Islamists are gone?” (Saturday, May 14, 14h-16h)
– Bassma Kodmani, Director, Arab Reform Initiative, will speak at last on the role of armies in the Arab world. (Saturday, 14 May, 16h30-18h30)
This training will be held at Institute for Mediterranean Research and Studies Middle East (iReMMO):
5, rue Basse des Carmes, in the 5th arrondissement of Paris (Metro: Maubert-Mutuality).
